Professor Brännström is a leading scientist and clinical doctor in gynaecology and reproductive medicine. He is one of the most well known gynaecologist after his achievement of bringing uterus transplantation into a clinical treatment. His research in this area started in 1999 and after systematic animal-based research for more than a decade the first clinical trial of uterus transplantation was started in 2013, with the first live birth occurring in 2014. Professor Brännström´ s clinical work is gyne-oncological surgery, involving robotic surgery, as well as reproductive medicine. Since 2001 he is a full professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and since 2009 also the chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He has been visiting professor at Harvard Medical School and Mayo Clinic, USA.
