Dr Oriol Bestard is the head of the Kidney transplant program at Bellvitge University Hospital and Associate Professor at Barcelona University (UB). He developed part of his Phd graduate at the Transplant Immunology Center at The Charité (Berlin, Germany) and completed a post-doctoral stage at the Multiorgan Transplant Research Laboratory at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF, US). Since September 2017 is member of the council of the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT). Dr Bestard also leads a Research group at the Bellvitge Research Institute (IDIBELL) mostly focusing in the investigation of main mechanisms of allograft rejection and opportunistic viral infections as well as in the development of novel non-invasive immune tools/biomarkers for immunosuppression individualization. He has published as first or senior author more than 90 articles on main international scientific journals in the field and has received a number of national and international competitive research grants (European frame Program 7, Horizon2020). He has recently received the Professional of Excellence award by the Association Board of Physicians of Barcelona (COMB).
