Patient Inclusivity Events

The European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) consistently fosters collaboration between patient advocates and healthcare professionals to enhance the health and quality of life of transplant recipients. In line with this commitment, the ESOT Congress 2025 will feature a dedicated selection of sessions aimed at amplifying the patient voice and strengthening meaningful engagement across the transplant community.

Highlights include the Patients’ Masterclass, which provides a unique opportunity for open dialogue between patients and medical experts, along with sessions focused on quality of life, shared decision-making, and long-term outcomes. As part of this initiative, the ESOT Patient Inclusion Steering Group has organised a special ETPO (European Transplant Patient Organisations) Workshop, welcoming representatives of patient associations from across Europe. This interactive session will facilitate collaboration between patient communities, clinicians, researchers, and policymakers to align priorities and collaboratively shape the future of transplant care.

Members of the societies that are part of the ETPO Alliance Network, as well as independent patient advocates, are warmly encouraged to register for ESOT Congress 2025 and participate in this inclusive and transformative dialogue.

ESOT Patient Inclusion Initiative Workshop
Challenges to a practical approach to ‘Staying healthy’ for a transplant
14:00 - 16:30 BST

People embarking on transplantation are frequently encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, despite the best efforts, this can be challenging for a number of reasons. There may be many barriers to achieving these goals such as access to sports and safe recreational facilities, nutritional literacy, low mood, geographical barriers, and financial constraints. The aim of this workshop is to learn about addressing the challenges of maintaining a healthy lifestyle with people with end-organ failure who either have, or hope to have, a transplant, and the multidisciplinary team that helps care for them. We will discuss the issues surrounding this topic, before formulating strategies to overcome them. During the workshop, ESOT will also present an update on ongoing projects related to the empowerment and care of people with transplants.

Target audience:People with end-stage organ failure hoping for a transplant, Nurses, Doctors, Allied Healthcare Professionals involved in transplant care, patient advocates, patient organisations.

The ESOT Congress relies on the support and sponsorship of Pharmaceutical Companies. These Companies are governed by the Associated Board of Pharmaceutical Industries (ABPI). According to Clause 26.1 of the 2024 ABPI Code: "Prescription only medicines must not be advertised to the public. This prohibition does not apply to vaccination and other campaigns carried out by companies and approved by the health ministers."

To adhere to this guidance and maintain future ESOT Congress sponsorship, the Main Exhibition Area and the Industry Sponsored Symposia will be strictly restricted to Healthcare Professionals ONLY.

To be compliant with the code, the patients and patient advocates will need to be identified as such on their congress badge to ensure pharmaceutical companies can easily recognise you and avoid any deviation from the ABPI standards. This page highlights the sessions patients are allowed to attend in accordance with the ABPI code.
